Fort McMurray & the Oil Sands

Northern Alberta's oil sands region, centred on Fort McMurray in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, is the single biggest concentration of oil & gas camp work in Canada — production here runs at roughly 3.7 million barrels a day combined, and CAPP's own forecasts have that climbing, not shrinking, over the next decade. Most FIFO rotations into the region fly out of Edmonton or Calgary into the Fort McMurray airport; DIDO work is more common for workers already living in or near the region. Kitimat & LNG Canada

Kitimat, on BC's north coast, is home to LNG Canada — already a major operating facility (Phase 1 began production and exported its first shipment in June 2025) and now working toward a Phase 2 expansion. The federal government's own project tracker puts expected private-sector investment for the expansion at roughly $33 billion, with the province and federal government having signed an agreement in 2026 to accelerate permitting, financing, and construction. A final investment decision hasn't landed yet as of this writing, but the scale of what's being planned makes this one of the biggest active and upcoming construction hiring hubs in the country — worth watching closely if you're in construction or hydro-adjacent trades. Ontario's Ring of Fire

The Ring of Fire is a mineral-rich region in Ontario's far north that's been more promise than production for years — that's changing. In 2026, Ontario and Marten Falls First Nation broke ground on the Marten Falls Community Access Road, a 184-kilometre stretch that will be the longest segment of the province's proposed 514-kilometre all-season road network into the region, including 35 bridges and culverts, now scheduled to open by November 2031 — four years earlier than previously planned. Ontario's own estimate is that development in the region could add $22 billion to the provincial economy and support 70,000 jobs. Right now, that means the hiring is in road construction and infrastructure — the mining jobs the region is ultimately built for follow later, once access exists. Wildfire Season: BC and Alberta

Forestry camp work has a seasonal category the other industries don't: wildfire response. The BC Wildfire Service hires roughly 1,000 wildfire fighters and over 1,600 seasonal personnel total each year, working out of fire centres across the province, plus dispatch and support roles. This is genuinely different from a standard camp rotation — it's a defined fire-season contract rather than a year-round posting, hiring typically opens well before the season starts, and the work itself is physically demanding in a way most camp jobs aren't.
