About the Position
๐ Opportunity
Dexterra is looking for a hands-on maintenance person to keep the remote camps for the Waasigan Transmission Line Project running in northwestern Ontario. It's a 3-weeks-on, 3-weeks-off rotation paying $300 to $335 a day depending on skills, and crews reach the sites by air or shuttle from the Thunder Bay area.
๐ง The Role
- General building maintenance, inspections and preventive upkeep
- Plumbing, electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and minor repairs
- Drywall, carpentry, painting and general repairs
- HVAC and gas-fired appliance upkeep
- Diesel generators, sump and lift stations and other camp utilities
- Kitchen and laundry equipment, fire alarms and emergency lighting
- Snow removal and de-icing, including skid-steer work
- Urgent fixes such as outages, leaks and equipment failures, plus maintenance logs and inventory
๐ CanadaCampJobs Take
This is the person every camp quietly depends on. When a boiler or generator quits in January, you're who gets it going again. Three weeks in and three weeks out is a long stretch away, but the three-week break is a big one, and a transmission line camp means you're part of a project that's physically moving across the landscape. Good for handy all-rounders, ex-building maintenance people and tradespeople who like variety over repetition.
โ
Best Fit
- Maintenance people who like fixing a bit of everything and working on their own
- Tradespeople (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC) who want a camp job without being locked to one trade
- Anyone with remote lodge, hotel, institutional or construction maintenance experience
- People who can drive from home to a departure hub and handle long rotations
- Workers comfortable with heights, confined spaces and cold-weather work
- Not a fit for: anyone who can't commit to the 3-and-3 rotation or doesn't have a clean G / Class 5 licence
Requirements
- Several years of general maintenance or similar hands-on experience
- Full G (Class 5 or higher) licence with a clean driving record
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, work at heights, in confined spaces and in all weather
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently
- Own transportation to the departure hub
- Preferred: trade certification, skid-steer experience, maintenance software experience, working-at-heights or first aid / CPR, remote or fly-in camp experience
Benefits
- Full group benefits from the date of hire
- Transportation to and from camp
- All meals during rotation
- Private room with Wi-Fi, TV, laundry and gym access
- Cross-training and advancement opportunities
